Compass

Grade’s function-led, flexible solution is helping to transform Compass, making it a more useful and engaging experience for its extremely broad demographic of users.

Problem

Compass had been created to support the Australian Government’s commitment to build a national elder abuse knowledge hub – consolidating a diverse range of information and resources about the abuse of older people, for the benefit of the community.

Elder Abuse Action Australia (EAAA), with funding from the Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department, approached Grade to review, redesign and ultimately rebuild the existing Compass site, which was already content heavy but proving hard for visitors to navigate, and difficult for the content team to keep updated.

Solution

  • Provided end to end project management across multiple stakeholders and Government approval bodies

  • Designed and built a much lighter, more user friendly, mobile optimised website

  • Tested site design and build to WCAG compliance

  • Replaced existing CMS with an easy to use cloud based CMS

  • Migrated all existing content to the new CMS, while optimising and updating content metadata to allow complex filtering and searching

  • Migrated site hosting to a fully cloud based AWS solution, dramatically reducing hosting costs while improving site speed for visitors

  • Implemented SEO and site content optimisations to increase search engine ranking

  • Created an ongoing plan for support, maintenance and new feature rollouts

Results

  • Dramatic, almost 300% rise in users soon after relaunch

  • 120% increase in new users in the second year, giving a total uptick of over 760% new users to the site overall

  • Over 830% rise in sessions since relaunch

  • Increase in page views of almost 450% in the same period, with a 10% increase  in sessions per user.

  • Increased efficiency and ability for Compass to launch new content campaigns

  • Confidence to build on and scale the presence and impact of Compass

  • Useful analytics help Compass better understand audience behaviour and make better decisions for users

  • Steady rise in organic search thanks to much improved SEO

The [Compass] site has been rebuilt to enable us to surface more content and increase functionality, which has resulted in significant audience growth and improved reputation for both EAAA and Compass.
