IGA Shop Mobile App

Grade worked as a technology and UX partner to deliver native mobile apps that allow shoppers across Australia to order groceries from their local IGA store.

Challenge

IGA Australia needed to compete in the online grocery space by offering customers a native mobile app.

IGA is a network of over 1,300 independent family owned businesses across Australia.

Although IGA had already deployed a web version (built in-house), a native app would allow them to build more trust and to be top-of-mind, while unlocking re-engagement tools like app notifications that aren't possible through a web-only version.

They needed to target both iOS and Android, with a unified experience that positively positioned the brand while ultimately offering a useful and user-friendly customer experience.

Solution

Working closely with IGA's internal teams, Grade built a full-featured native mobile application.

  • Consulted to help drive development of the overall User Experience and features, suggesting improvements and UI changes as well as offering advice on best-practice.

  • Worked with internal teams to improve, troubleshoot and integrate their in-house API.

  • Built a native mobile application that could be deployed to both iOS and Android platforms.

  • Solved complexity around pick-up, delivery and cataloguing, unique to each independent IGA store location.

  • Built out useful customer tools like favourite lists, re-ordering, and special offers.

  • Tested and iterated features through a systematic, collaborative process that prioritised ease-of-use.

  • Navigated publishing to the Apple App Store and Google Play.

  • Continued to deploy updates and QoL improvements over time.

Results

IGA is positioned for future growth of their online grocery ordering business.

Tens of thousands of Australians have downloaded the app, delivering massive value to IGA and their independent partner stores and allowing them to hold their own in this hugely competitive space.

Grade embedded themselves deeply amongst the various teams working across this project, delivered outstanding work, and set us up for ongoing success.
